“Mondo” significa terra, ma anche il gioco della campana ed è l’opposto di immondo. Scelto d’istinto, questo titolo abbraccia il groviglio di aspetti che il mio attuale lavoro tocca.
Questa ricerca muove dall’osservazione di ciò che definirei “la supremazia del risultato”.
La nostra smania di compimento, di un culmine delle nostre biografie, il nostro desiderio di una narrazione accurata che possa valere per sempre, che possa dirci chi siamo una volta per tutte.
Non importa quante volte sia già accaduto di sperarci, noi continuiamo comunque a credere che in qualche luogo e modo potremmo essere qualcosa per sempre.
Inseguiamo noi stessi nelle nostre foto, nei curricula, nei nostri profili, in qualunque cosa possa offrirci una versione compiuta di noi stessi. Collezioniamo immagini, istanti, punti d’arrivo, risultati, sperando che una cronaca dettagliata dei nostri svariati sé possa fornirci maggiore verità.
Il nostro desiderio inconfessato di essere cose. Poi c’è il respiro. L’atto continuo e implacabile che ci accompagna per tutta la vita.
La trama infinita dietro tutti i nostri istanti e frammenti, senza altro fine se non il semplice e mero fatto di tenerci in vita. La vita è una traccia irrafigurabile e simultanea ai nostri passi e respiri. La nostra sola possibilità di essere è continuare a essere, continuare a respirare e camminare, senza mai “cessare di scolpire la nostra statua interiore”. Il nostro miglior capolavoro, per sempre incompiuto.
“Mondo” significa questo per me.
La resistenza di un bambino che gioca a campana in un cortile.
La purezza mai definitiva che emerge dall’atto continuo di scolpirsi.
La “totalità dei fatti, non delle cose”.

“Mondo” means world, but it also means the “hopscotch” game – and it is the opposite of “immondo”, which means ‘unclean’. Chosen quite instinctively, this title embraces the tangle of aspects of my current work. This research starts from the observation of what I would define the supremacy of result. Our mania for an accomplishment, an apex of our personal biographies, our longing for a thorough self-narration that might be valid forever, that might tell us who we are once and for all. No matter how many times it has already happened, we keep believing that somewhere or somehow we can be forever.
We are in search of ourselves among our pictures, our cvs, our social profiles, in whatever may dis- play an achieved version of us. We collect fixed images, instants, endpoints, results, hoping that a chronicle of our several selves might provide us with more truth.
Our unconfessed desire to become things.
Then, there is breath. The relentless, continuous action that accompanies us along our whole life. The invisible web of all our instants and fragments of self, with no other goal than the simple, bare fact of keeping us alive.
Life is the simultaneous and unportrayable trace of our steps and breaths.
Our only possible way of being is to keep being, to keep breathing and walking and ‘never stopping sculpting our own statue’. Our ever-incomplete masterpiece.
This is what ‘Mondo’ means to me.
The resistance of a child playing hopscotch in the courtyard.
The never-definitive pureness that comes out from the continuous act of sculpting.
The ‘totality of facts, not of things”.
