Álvaro Murillo

from Extremadura, España. He began dancing as an adult obtaining a degree in Dance Psychology and Performing Techniques directed by Pablo Molero at the University of Extremadura. Within the training program of the À Corps Festival (France) he receives training from choreographers such as Imre Thorman (Butoh), Laurent Falguieras, François Chaignaud, Laurent Chetonne, Christine Bombal, Gaëlle Bourges and Boris Charmatz among others.
He declares himself self-taught in his way of approaching flamenco language together with contemporary dance. He received the award for best degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, and in 2024 he completed his PhD on the physical and cerebral effects of dance and creativity in people with chronic pain with an outstanding Cum laude grade.
In 2018, he created the work El Barbero de Picasso, a tribute to Morente and the painter from Malaga, presented at the National Theatre of Nairobi (Kenya) together with a conference on the relationship between Africa and flamenco. In 2019, he created 8 Km en Mula through the Instituto Cervantes in Sofia (Bulgaria), a work based on Bodas de Sangre by Federico García Lorca with which he has obtained numerous national and international choreography and programming awards.
In 2020, he created the work Flamencas, premiered at the Escena Patrimonio Festival produced by UNESCO. He also began working for the circus, flamenco and dance company Albadulake, in the Serrana project, participating in the Almagro Classical Theatre Festival and the Dubai World Expo.
In 2023, Flamenco Futuro was selected by the Paco de Lucía Foundation and the Centro Superior Música Creativa for the development of the Flamenco Lab 2023 program. In 2024, he premiered the work DUAL together with the musical composer Daniel Muñoz “Artomático” at the Escenas do Cambio Festival in Cidade de la Cultura.
