Accompanied by the ethereal and hypnotic sound of the handpan – one of the most recently created musical instruments – the performance presents the performer on a journey marked by departures, arrivals, and returns. A path that unfolds through both linear and complex routes, traced by invisible lines that connect the musician’s body, their various positions, and the geometry of the surrounding space. In this fragmented environment, the performer embarks on a symbolic voyage toward the construction of their own identity.
At the heart of this choreography lies the theme of roots, understood as the legacy of one’s origin. Roots are not only what shaped us, but also what points us in the direction to follow. Knowing where we come from can help us understand where we are going, offering a compass in times of uncertainty. However, not everything passed down from our roots is necessarily positive or useful.
What should we hold on to, and what should we let go of along the way?
Valuing one’s origins does not mean blindly accepting everything that belongs to us. Rather, it means being able to recognize and choose what good they have to offer, aware that even the less admirable aspects are part of life’s lessons. Looking to our roots thus becomes an inner journey toward a deeper understanding of ourselves.
The journey – whether short or long, easy or challenging – will lead us to discover that we are our roots, no matter where life takes us.
