Tu Hoang (1988) is a choreographer from Hanoi, Vietnam.
Currently based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, he works as a freelance artist, showcasing his passion on an international stage. Tu’s journey in dance began at the age of 10 when he started practicing Kungfu. This sparked his interest in movement, leading him to join the Vietnam National Dance Academy, where he graduated in 2006 with a specialization in Classical Ballet.
In 2007, Tu embarked on a journey to Europe to explore contemporary dance further. Since 2010, he has focused on choreography, aiming to combine his Oriental background in Kung Fu and Tai Chi with his Western dance knowledge in genres like urban hip hop, ballet, and contemporary.
His goal is to create a unique artistic identity. Tu’s talent has been recognized with several awards. In 2018, his piece Trial received multiple accolades at the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition, including “3rd Prize,” “Audience Choice Award,” and “B.OOM festival production prize.” He also achieved “1st Prize Winner” at New Dance For Asia in Seoul and received the “Audience First Choice Award” at Tanzplattform Bern 2019. Recently, Tu collaborated with Hiro Murata on the piece False Memories, which won first prize at the 27th Masdanza Choreography Competition. This success led to invitations to festivals in Italy, Hungary, and the USA.
Tu has also danced in renowned ballet companies such as the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet, Cinevox Junior Company, Regensburg Ballett, Ballett Theater Pforzheim, Byaccident Dance, Ballett Stadttheater Pforzheim, and Conny Janssen Danst. He has also choreographed for these companies.
